INSPIRATION

TAYLOR MALI

This poem written by Taylor Mali was shown to me in my seminar about education in my very first year at Rutgers. It is something that has stuck with me these past two years on my journey toward becoming a teacher. I have always wanted to be a teacher to make a difference in the lives of my students, as my teachers have done with me. As Taylor Mali shows in his video, people often belittle the jobs of teachers – they claim the pay is too small, or that those who cannot do, teach. However, those of us who want to be teachers know that these statements are not true. We teach to change lives. We teach to help students through their lowest lows and their highest highs. We teach to make a difference.

I strongly recommend watching the video or reading the poem (linked below), and leaving your thoughts in the feedback section at the bottom of the page – this poem is truly inspirational and something that everyone should see.
